<p><b>They did surgery on a screen</b></p>
<p>
Luckily the milkyness and discoloration wasn't a problem with the display itself, but with the polarizer films on either side.
</p>
<p>
I tackled the front side first and used a razor blade and my heat gun on a low setting to remove the film. It didn't come off as one piece, but bit by bit I got it removed.
</p>
<p>
Afterwards I used some cleaning alcohol to get rid of the glue residue.

<p>
The back side still looked pretty bad, but when breaking the backlight cable I made the plan of replacing the backlight with a modern LED-based one. I didn't want to replace the polarization filter just for it to get baked again until I got around to replacing the light source.
